This is the last post from London - we are heading towards home this morning (via a few days in Italy). We've struck a nice balance between busy and relaxed - mostly having late starts to each day! It has become quite busy due to school holidays, but not too bad outside of the main tourist locations. We've continued to see plenty of shows and have really enjoyed them. Here are some pics.....
Dr Strangelove was great fun - with Steve Coogan playing 4 roles!.....
We went to Kew Gardens on a particularly nice day.....
Afterwards we walked down to Richmond (on the Thames) which is a very nice town.....
There is a play on Stranger Things (a prequel to the TV show) which was very well done.....
This is the old British Library Reading Room, from the centre of the British Museum.....
Walking over Westminster Bridge to see another show....
Witness for the Prosecution was set in the old London council chambers in County Hall - we sat in the old chamber - it was a great show (whodunit Court drama).....
I took us on more walking tours from my books. This is from quite a long one out along the East End. We cycled all the way back home along canals and The Embankment....
....this is the matchstick factory where one of the first strikes was held by the working women (because of work conditions). Now luxury flats....
....this is Bow Church - it's disputed whether the true Cockney is born within proximity of these Bow Bells or those from a similarly named church in the City.....
....Oast houses (part of an old brewery) on the canal in Hackney, on cycle back....
We met up with Jodie (sister in law) for another walk through Belgravia - had lunch in the little pub where Lord Lucan's wife ran in and exclaimed: "He's killed the nanny!".....
Another walk, along Hammersmith foreshore - very interesting - ended up at Hogarth's 18th century house (painter/engraver) now next to a major roundabout.....
....Chiswick House and Gardens - a lovely public space in Chiswick (near Hammersmith)....
Hadestown was the best musical we saw - awesome.....
Yesterday we went to the London Wetland Centre which had several bird hides and extensive wetlands....
Last night our last show was Moulin Rouge - quite the spectacle!....
You really did a number on the shows.....nice work👍
