Brolgas by the 100's

It has been a slow paced and interesting day. We've only gone 72km from Karumba back to Normanton, but seen some great things. We visited the Karumba Sunday market by the gulf first up. The Barramundi Centre was very professional and surprisingly interesting. It also had a  great explanation of the history and context of Karumba. We saw 100's of Brolgas on the salt plains on the way back to Normanton which was great. We visited some local wetlands which are very picturesque, with Sarus Cranes (rare, but look like Brolgas). Normanton has a very high ratio of heritage buildings to buildings, including the Albion Hotel where I write this (its the little pub in the distance on the left hand side of one of the photos). Apparently the council chambers were built last century specifically in the style of a hotel - why I'm not sure, but its very fetching!

  1. Methinks maybe the mayor who built the council chambers was also the local publican and did a very good cross sell.😂
