The lava tubes tour was awesome. We've been before (20 years ago), which I don't remember much about. I certainly don't remember being as impressed! The guide was very interesting and the 3 tubes we saw were great. They are part of a 165km lava flow (!) from a volcano 20km away. We were told the original owner of the resort bought 21 old carriages from Mareeba and used them as a basis for the facilities. We stayed in one and they are used in lots of ways including as part of the dining facilities. We then headed up to near Atherton to the 'Birdwatchers Cabin' which is fantastic, as a very efficient European lady runs it and its well set up, modern and set in the rainforest. From our little verandah we saw many colourful (and fury) critters, including a Riflebird doing an outrageous dance like on a David Attenborough documentary! Tonight she took us on a spotlight walk and we saw some Sugar Gliders close up. Pretty cool (but no photos on this phone - Marian has a cracker of the Riflebird though).
